Dude Takes a Nap - Wishes Everyone a Merry Christmas!

I'm so happy I could just poop! The other night, George, my male human sat with me in my new bed and rubbed me. It was wonderful! Here's a photo of me in my new bed:

Now, I hear that there's a holiday. George is flying to California, and I will miss him. It's Christmas, Kathy says. Well, I hope George has a good Christmas in California, and that everyone who is reading this does, too. I know I will.

I Have a New Bed!

Since I got to my new home, I have been sleeping in my kennel. It's OK, and I feel safe there. But yesterday, Kathy, one of my humans brought me a brand new bed and put it on the floor. It's just the right size and is really, really soft. I got in it right away, and rubbed my face all over it so it smells just right.

There is another bed in my home. Kathy and George sleep in it at night. This morning, George woke up and started pulling the cloths around on the bed. I always want to know what my humans are doing, so I jumped up on the bed. It's really soft, too, and it smells like my humans and the first cat. Maybe I'll sleep on it sometimes when my humans are sleeping.

I am so lucky!

I'm Out of the Kennel With No Leash

This morning, Kathy, my human, let me out of the kennel, but didn't put the leash on. I was confused. Then she went into the room where she sits all day and taps something on the table she sits at and looks at a light. The first cat was there on the table, too. Cats are boring. I laid down on the floor and had a nap.

When I woke up, I walked out to the room where my kennel is. The first cat was lying on a rug in the hallway. I walked right by, and it didn't hit me or anything. I didn't stop to sniff it, either. I went back and forth from the kennel room to Kathy's room, and the cat didn't try to hurt my nose at all.

George came upstairs, and was surprised that I was out. He stood by the first cat on the rug and said Sit! I did, and got a tiny liver treat. We did that a couple of times more. The cat must not like tiny liver treats, because it just stayed there, lying on that rug. I haven't seen the second cat, but I plan to ignore it, too. Maybe someday we can all three make friends and play together sometimes. That would be very good.

This is my home! I like it. I like my humans, and I even think I like my cats. HOORAY!

I Have Seen The Other Cat!

I told you there was another cat, but I had not seen it. Last night, I saw it. For real. It's huge! It weighs at least 20 lb., and I'm just a little 32 lb. dog. It's all big and hairy, and doesn't act like a cat much at all. Kathy, one of my humans, said it was a Maine Coon, and calls it Beasley. I know about Coon Hounds, but I've never heard of any Coon Cats, and I have no idea what a Maine is. It walked right past my kennel and looked straight at me. Then it jumped on Kathy's lap. She rubbed it with something.

It didn't seem afraid. That's good, because I don't mean that cat any harm, either. The other cat and I have already reached a silent agreement. I won't bother it, and it won't hurt my nose. As soon as I can get an agreement from the second cat, my humans will let me out of this kennel most of the time.

Just now, George, my other human led me on my leash after our walk to where the first cat was lying on a rug. The rug is just like the one in my kennel. We looked at each other, but the cat didn't even stand up. I ignored it, which is my overall plan for dealing with it. George said Sit!, so I did. I got a piece of bacon stuff. My plan is working. Now, I'm back in my kennel, waiting for Kathy to return. I don't like it when my humans aren't here. I've been barking, but it does no good. I think I'll stop, since that isn't making Kathy come back. So far she's always come back, so she probably will this time, too.

This is an exciting day!

I Hate Dry Kibble!

That shelter place I used to stay at until my humans Kathy and George took me home fed me some horrible dry kibble stuff. I don't like dry kibble. I hate dry kibble. I didn't know how to tell my humans that I hate it, but I just wouldn't eat it. So, the first day in my new home, I didn't get as much to eat as I like to eat, and I do like to eat very much. But, they got the message. Yesterday, when I was at the vet's office, I think they asked about my food, too.

Now, I'm getting food in a bowl that is from one of those cans. They've given me several kinds. I like them all. I like them all very much. I eat two cans full every day, one in the morning, and one later when the outside gets dark. After I eat, I feel really good, and sleep for an hour or so. It's very good. By the way, I like the outside where I live, too. There are squirrels, and I can watch them. But I don't ever see them when I'm outside. I could chase them if I could see them then.

My new humans are very smart people. They talk to each other a lot, and I hear them say my new name, Dude, a lot, too. Even though I don't understand what they're saying, they have figured out that I hate dry kibble. I do like tiny liver treats and tiny beef treats, though, and I like the sticks that taste like chicken and that I have to chew a long time, too. I like my new humans, too, and even their cats, although I don't like those cats all that much. But, my humans like them, so I like them, too. But, my nose still hurts when I see them.

A Ride in The Car

My humans took me for a ride in the car this morning. We didn't go very far, and then we went into a building that wasn't my house.. There must be hundreds of dogs there, because I couldn't even tell all the smells apart. Cats, too. Then, we went into a small place, and George picked me up and put me on a table. He gave me a liver treat.

Both of my humans petted me a lot. After a little while someone I hadn't met came in and made marks on some paper, and then left. She petted me, too. After a little while, a man came in and petted me. He felt me all over, too, and put some little thing on different places on my chest. He made marks on some paper too, and then said things in a nice voice to my humans. Then we left and I got to ride in the car again. We came home! I got a piece of bacon!

After I got bacon, George led me to where that same cat was and we looked at each other again for a little while. I'm not sure why he keeps doing that, since I'm not really interested in cats at all. I told you about my sore nose when I was a puppy, and I don't want that any more. Anyway, that was my morning. So many new smells, and so many nice people. I like where I am, and hope I'll never have to go back to that shelter again. I don't think I will.

I Don't Understand Cats

I'm still kept in my kennel in the living room most of the time. I don't know why. I think it might have something to do with cats. This morning, the cat I met yesterday when I was on the leash came up to the kennel and stared at me. It didn't say anything, so I stayed quiet, too. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about cats. Part of me thinks it would be fun to chase the cat. I don't want to hurt it, but it's fun to chase things. Another part of me thinks that my humans would not like it if I chased the cat.

So, I'm conflicted. I'm a dog. I think I'm beginning to understand how I'm expected to behave in my new home, but I'm pulled in two directions when it comes to the cat. It doesn't seem to be afraid of me very much. I think I may just never look at the cat. That might solve the problem for me. Besides, I met a cat once when I was very young. My nose hurt after I met it. My nose is very sensitive.

This problem will be solved, though, I'm sure.

Dude Goes Mobile

So, I found this black bone-thing and was chewing on it. George said No! Drop it! So I did. But he didn't give me a liver treat. He said something about mobile phone or something like that. I don't know what that is. He said that I have a blog, too, and I don't know what that is either. Then he said that the blog was all set up for mobile phones, too.

All I know is that I'm not chewing on any more black bone-things.

Whoa! Busy Day!

George took me out for a walk on my leash and taught me two new words. They were Stop! and Sit! I didn't understand right away, but he showed me what to do, and gave me a tiny liver-flavored treat when I did it. So, the thing is, I really, really like tiny liver-flavored treats, so now I do what he wants every time. Sometimes I get a treat, and sometimes I don't. You just never know, so it's better to do the same thing every time, just in case.

Then, we came back in the house and walked around inside. I was still on the leash. I saw the cat again. I'm not sure what to do with a cat. It didn't run away. George said Sit! and Stop!, and I got liver treats. The cat and I looked at each other. I don't think I'm supposed to chase this cat. Its scent is all over the house. There's another cat's scent, too, but I haven't seen that one yet.

Later, George closed some doors in the house and let me out. I went everywhere and sniffed everything. I found two soft squeaky toys, and took them to George, where he was sitting at his desk looking at some light with marks on it. He showed me a new way to get liver treats. When he says Drop it! he has a treat, but I can't take the treat with the toy in my mouth. If I put the toy on the floor, I can take the treat. I think Drop it! means to put the toy on the floor. We'll try this again later, and see if I'm right.

Kathy took me for a ride in their black car. I sat on a blanket. I tried to get in the front where Kathy was, but she said No! I already knew what No! meant so I sat in the back and looked out the window. We went to a place where she got liver treats and toys. Then we went home.

Oh, yeah...I pooped, too, when Kathy took me for a walk on my new leash. She put the poop in a bag. I don't know why she did that. Humans are strange, sometimes.

That's all for now.

Meet Dude. He's a 4 year old beagle mix from a shelter. We just got him yesterday. He weighs 34 lb., and is being introduced to our cats now. Good Boy!
